Performance appraisals usually happen annually in companies. In reality people are achieving something significant more often. Proud Cards are a way that individuals can “Self-publish” their significant achievements as they happen. The Proud Card system is designed in such a way that a person and publish maximum 12 Proud Cards a year - so this way they have to make sure that they are only highlighting important achievements.
Each person starts in the system with 3 blank proud cards and they get one new blank card on 1st of each month. However, at no point can the person have more than 5 blank cards. This encourages them to not wait for long periods before publishing their achievements and yet provides them flexibility in cases where achievements take longer to accomplish.
As a coach, you can help the individual identify potential achievements they can highlight. This is important because often people don’t know “what about their work is worthy of publishing as Proud Card”. Moreover, if the Proud Card is suggested by the mentor, it has built validation and recognition. Even though Proud Cards are SelfPublished, they are more authentic as the Proud Card is shared with the person’s peers and seniors. The transparency and sharing builds in authenticity.
