In ReJoyos, everyone gets 10 stars that they can give in form of appreciation to anyone in the company. A person may give 1, 2, or 3 stars to another person. This timely appreciation helps people to stay motivated and also acts as feedback to them as to what they are doing well. Appreciation makes both parties feel better and also builds the trust and bond between people. As a manager, it is important that you observe and appreciate people for what they are doing well. What we appreciate - grows.
So when we appreciate someone for a good behavior that behaviors solidifies into a habit and also other negative behaviors start breaking. Make it a point to give away all your 10 stars each week to people. It helps to set a time (and a reminder) in a week to do this - may be after lunch on Friday?
Here are some tips on how you use Appreciation the best:
•Be specific in the appreciation - refer to the project, the behavior, the context etc.
•Use positive and upbeat words to describe not just what the person did but also why it matters. e.g. Your efforts to understand the client (xyz) and communicate better are helping improve our client relationship.
•Match the number of stars to the magnitude of behavior - 1 (Thanks - helpful behavior), 2 (Good Going - good work with skill), or 3 (You are rocking - exceptional skill and / or behavior) stars
•Make sure you read the appreciation received by your colleagues and reportees. Like those posts and add to it by commenting on the post as much as possible
•Always be authentic - never use appreciation casually / in routine manner at the same time never hesitate to appreciate good things - however small.
